What is it?

This program assist its participants in understanding the realities of a work environment and allows them to directly interact with a health professional doing a career that the student is interested in.

How does it work?
This program is the result of cooperative participation between schools, businesses and community. The shadowing experience can be done after school, on weekends, or during the school day. A typical experience is 6 to 8 hours and can be completed in one day or in the morning/afternoon.

Participants benefit from the experience of learning about a health career through firsthand observation of how their education relates to an occupation. Often mentor relationships form where participants can receive some direction along the path of their health career choice.
NExTSTEP also provides benefits for its business hosts. When employers host participants, they are helping to ensure the quality of the future workforce, and they have a unique opportunity to instill in participants a sense of what it takes to be successful.
