About LIFE

 

In an effort to support student talent and promote regional workforce development, the Learning Inspired Field Experience Program (LIFE) brings students and employers together to give students experience in a health care environment.

 

This program offers an opportunity for select students within Inland Southern California to to gain first-hand work experience and to determine a career interest. Participants in LIFE engage in a field experience where they become actively involved in observing various sectors of the healthcare industry. Select students will have the opportunity to gain learning experience in the healthcare field. 

 

Participating students will receive training in topics such as professionalism, HIPAA,  information security, exposure prevention , hospital emergency protocols, etc. 

 

 

Program Goals

 

The LIFE Program  brings students and the healthcare  industry together, giving students experience in a healthcare environment and businesses the opportunity to become more involved in their community by encouraging student to chose healthcare careers. Through LIFE participants are

​

  • introduced to careers in the health professions

  • provided opportunities to develop and foster professional and community leadership skills in a supportive environment

  • assisted in obtaining practical skills and experiences that will help them be successfully pursue employment in the health professions

  • encouraged in pursuing higher education and career development opportunities

Key Components

 

Participants of the program will include high school health pathway students within Inland Southern California that meet the listed requirements.

​

LIFE participants are required to attended mandatory seminars prior to field experience placements. Here, participants will be trained and prepared for their site placement. Additionally, participants will be required to complete assignments prior to completion of the field experience.

 

The program will be divided as follows:

  • Student/parent Orientation Day

  • Training Workshops - Approximately  8 hours in total

  • Field Experience- participants will be scheduled and placed for their 40-80 hour experience

Participant Orientation and Training

 

All LIFE program participants will be required to attend the orientation day where the specific guidelines of the program will be outlined. Additionally, participants will be required to attend training workshops where students will fill out and provide all required documentation. During these session students and will be given the training handbook and participant workbook. Moreover, participants will receive HIPAA training and direction on specific site protocols, and other relevant topics.​
